Benelli Throat

Being the frugal type, I often buy birdshot at Walmart for my Benelli M1 Super 90.  Although the Benelli is flawless with most ammo, including light loads, it just would not run with Walmart's 100 pack ammo.  A couple of times per match, it would choke in some way on the ammo, and I would end up pulling the charging handle quickly to fix it.  During a bit of practice the same thing happened again and I was able to inspect the failure.  The front of the round had come to rest on a flat part in the throat of the chamber.  After inspecting the design of this area, I decided that the area the shell was landing on was not needed for function or strength.  After fixing the throat, all is well with inexpensive ammo.

This is the stock chamber throat of the Benelli barrel.

Here is the throat after a bit of metal removal.  Smoothing, polishing and cleanup are next.
