Brass Hound Tool
Okay, most of us that shoot a lot, recover our used brass so it can be reloaded. This is especially true given the price of new ammunition recently. I have seen the dedicated brass hound spend more time recovering brass than they do shooting.
I recall that bending over and picking up brass off the ground was no big deal when young, but it challenges the old back at times. So why bend over? Why not use something to extend my reach and eliminate the bending?
It turns out there are several products already marketed as "reach extenders" that might work. After looking at most of them I settled on a product called the Gopher. The Gopher has two suction cup like "fingers" on the business end. This is perfect for picking up brass, and many other things. The Gopher also folds in the middle to make it easier to store. It won't fit into most range bags, but it is not hard to store. I use mine with a coffee can on the end of a stick to hold the recovered brass. That way the gripper only moves about a foot up and down. It is very fast.
I got mine from Harbor Freight for $9.99 but I have seen them at $19.99 too. They are available in stores and on-line.
