Rocking Target from PVC

The rocking design, sometimes called a swinger, has been around for quite some time.  This design is a typical rocking target, except it is made entirely of PVC, is easy to build, and the parts are inexpensive.  While the bearing that the target rocks on is not nearly as good as the typical steel rocking target, this target rocks plenty long enough for most shooting sports.

Most PVC projects are glued together, and this target may indeed be glued together.  However, to make the target easier to repair if it is damaged by gun fire, the entire thing can be assembled by using #8 x 1/2" sheet metal screws.

These plans are free for non-commercial use and are offered with no warranty or other claims expressed or implied.  Ken Reed, 07/25/2006.

A completed PVC rocking target.

First build a left and a right side of the base.

Base almost complete.

Pre-drilling for #8 x 1/2" sheet metal screw.

Screws hold the joints instead of PVC glue.  This allows easy repairs.

This "T" needs screws on the top, bottom and sides.

Nearly done, just two more uprights.

Filling the rocking portion with dirt to add weight.

Eventually the target will be shot up.  This time the target was directly
down range from another target and got hit 5 times during a match.
It took about 45 minutes to fix the target as good as new.  Still, I'd
suggest better target placement.
